TALUS STORAGE YARD MINERAL BIN COVER The Talus Storage Yard was constructed in 2009 as part of the Talus Development Agreement. The purpose was to provide an area to store sand stockpiles for snow response to the Talus Community. This site reduces travel time for the plow trucks to refill with sand and deicer. To prevent the sand from freezing, tarps are used to cover the stockpiles to keep it dry and useful for sanding operations. A Capital Improvement Plan was developed for the site in 2015 to cover the mineral bins by constructing a steel framed fabric building. Originally funded for construction in 2019 but the bids came in over budget. The building was purchased with plans to combine the construction with a similar CIP for the Public Works facility. COVID budget cuts halted the project for the next several years. Funding was available in 2022 but we failed to complete the project. Funding was carried over to 2023 an increased to cover both projects, permitting and engineering. An RFQ went out early March for engineering services to assess the existing ecology block walls and provide calculations and drawings to strengthen them as a foundation for the buildings. The permit application will be updated when the foundation drawings are available.
